The History of Yoga Workshop

Learning about our yoga practice's Western cultural and spiritual heritage shows us how we bring our own understandings and misunderstandings, hopes and concerns to our interpretation of tradition. It also changes our perspective on our own practice, inviting us to really consider what we're doing when we practice yoga, what its meaning is for us. Like the practice itself, this knowledge can reveal to us what we most desire – be that a connection with god, a union with ourselves and the present moment, or something altogether different.
This fascinating workshop explores the history of our modern practice of yoga – including a timeline of yoga reaching our current classrooms, The Yoga Sutras, The 8-Limbs of Ashtanga, They Yamas and the Niyamas, as well as a discussion about the practice of yoga and its relation to spirituality and religion. You will learn about many misconceptions which exist as well as the origins of several modern styles of yoga.
This workshop can be taught virtually or in person at a studio and is recommended to be 90 minutes to two hours in length.
